um, what is there to say about it? lol. obviously it is a place to work out, but i also think that it is under appreciated/used. the facilities are not horrible and worked to shreds, the machines are, in actuality, quite nice. there are 2 different treadmills along with many different things to help tone and shape. whatever your thing is. there is a tv to watch which is pretty cool if you wanna watch jeopardy and get a workout of the mind and body, otherwise there is a pretty nice stereo down there where you can blast some power music.
if you talk to jared dalberg, he could probably get you a lock for one of the lockers down there if you want to make it part of your daily schedule.
oh yeah, i almost forgot. the weight room is in the basement of founders hall. instead of taking the stairs up, take them down and walk down a long hall. ("Where do I go?" "Where do you go? You follow the one f*ing road you're on to me! Where do you go- okay ma'am you're gonna go to the Texaco station, take a right, go five and a half miles southeast, you'll see a guy in a yello poncho, his name is Hank, he'll take you to the whopper lair, that's where you go." dane cook) but yeah, just follow the hall to the weight room. it is usually devoid of life so working out is a lot less embarrassing for some people (me). once and a while you will even catch a professor down there pumpin iron!
so check it out i guess!
good quote to go along with topic::
Jack: ...there's gonna be some things that you are going to be able to get, that other people in the office don't get... one of them: Gym membership.
Alison Scott: You want me to lose weight?
Jack: [laughing] No, I don't want you to lose weight!
Jill: No, uh, we can't legally ask you to do that.
Jack: We didn't say lose weight... I might say tighten.
Alison Scott: Tight?
Jack: Tighter.
Jill: Just liked toned and smaller.
Jack: Don't make everything smaller, I don't wanna generalize that way... tighter.
Jill: We don't want you to lose weight, we just want you to be healthy. Y'know, by eating less.
Alison Scott: OK.
Jill: We would just like it if you go home and step on the scale, and write down how much you weigh, and subtract it by like, 20.
Alison Scott: 20.
Jill: And then weigh that much.

the uw gym is a joke... your obvisously not a health enthusist if you talking up the uw gym. yeah, uw has a place for students & staff to work out but i think that the space would be better used if it were empty so students or staff can do ladders, push ups, sit ups or sprints. honestly, don't kid yourself about the uw gym, it needs to get updated....! i don't care how, uw is a facility w/ critical thinkers so figure it out.
wow, i am glad you left a comment!
i think that for beginners, or for people who dont have the time nor money to go to the y or a similar gym, the center gym is a good alternative. perhaps we can talk to jared dalberg about maybe getting some things updated or new equipment installed! The only way that things will change is if the students bring problems to the attention of the school. if you have any specific ideas, i am positive that professor dalberg would be happy to listen!
and as to not being a health enthusiast because i am talking up the gym, i believe that you can get a great workout using whatever is at hand. it is all in how you use it and which exercises you do. (i use a 5 lb bag of potatoes at home)
